Stella's Bakery Super Yummy Treats & Crafty Minions Likes

I have been looking for local brioche and I found it today at Stella's Bakery along with a loaf of marble rye.  I love living in Wolseley where it seems nearly everything is a bike ride away.  They have a showcase of all their delicious slices, cookies, and muffins and the window is filled with rustic looking loaves.  I bake bread in the winter but why do I when I have Stella's and Tall Grass minutes away?  I guess I am preparing in case we lose our mind and move to the suburbs.  ;)

I hope you are all having a great weekend!  I have had a fantastic weekend.  Firstly, the rain has pretty much stayed away.  Secondly,  I went to three church rummage sales yesterday sans kids.  Thirdly, I was the first person to walk into the Crafty Minions sale.  :)  I did buy my shirt from Lady Tees and ordered 2 more.  I bought Li (my girl) 3 pairs of earrings from Midkid: apples, birds, and hearts.  I also found a great vintage shirt for Li from Marathon 1981 or I should say her new Etsy shop named The Young Team, and a set of melmac plates for my deck from Bitchin' Kitsch'N'Kitchen.   Definitely a successful day.

This afternoon we biked to Stella's for bread and to Olmand's Creek to see if the lake has receded (it hasn't).  Tonight,  once our little mini ones are asleep, we get to sit on our deck and listen to the U2 concert.  :)  We have been hearing them practice and sound checks already.  Not a bad weekend I'd say.  Have a great week folks!!

Sew Darling Designs Baby and Toddler Custom Trendy Clothing

I love handmade children's clothes...especially little girl pillow case and apron dresses.  The fabrics used seem to be way ahead of the factory made clothes you can buy at the box stores.  I also like knowing that someone local made it with care and creativity as they pick the design, choose which fabrics will look great together, and then piece it together for a special little girl.  Sew Darling Designs uses awesome fabric that ranges from modern to classic and their designs are ageless.  Have a peak at their new Facebook site and contact them for a custom made outfit for a little girl in your life.  :)

"My mother and I teamed up to create baby and toddler custom trendy clothing. Made locally in   Winnipeg, MB.   We specialize in making custom trendy clothing for babies and tots. Shop from our ready-made dresses in our album, or you choose the fabric(s) from our selection and we create the rest!

We try to only carry a limited amount of each fabric (enough for 1-2 pieces.) We hope to bring you an alternative to the mass-produced and/or "name brand" children clothes, so your child can have a unique piece of clothing in their closet, locally made. "

What I am Shopping For at Crafty Minions

I am getting ahead of the game but I love planning so I tend to go to craft sales with a shopping list. :)  I really need some summer shirts so I am glad that Lady Tees will be there again.  I bought one long sleeve in December but I think I need tanks and short sleeves now.  I am also going to head to Marathon 1981 because she has such cute vintage kids clothes along with her great handmade items.  I got this little red sailor jacket from her last time.  The cutie is my niece.  ;)  Lastly I need to pick up a couple more pairs of earrings for my little girl from Midkid.  I bought her the cutest little roses at the last sale so I am going to snag a couple more pairs.  Maybe these cute little apples.

Is there anyone else excited about this sale?  :)

Rochelle's Craftnook's Clips, Bibs, I-Spy Bags, and TUTUS!

I was bragging about these I-Spy bags that I bought from a local crafter to a friend.  She is heading to Washington DC with the whole family in their minivan.  She thought the idea was great and wanted me to find her some asap.  :)  I log into my Gmail and who contacts me but a new to me crafter Rochelle's Craftnook who indeed makes I-Spy Bags which is good because I am unsure if my regular I-Spy bag crafter is still making them.  Such a strange coincidence.  Enough with the story...I am sure you want to know about Rochelle.

"I am a stay at home Mom of two beautiful children. Damian is 7 and Rhianna is 4. I have been married for going on 8 years this july to the love of my life Adam! He is a paramedic and away quite a bit. In my spare time as a stay at home Mom I have found many things to keep me busy on top of the daily tasks in life. I have always been artistic and crafty, so I decided to let my abilities grow further and Rochelle's Craftnook became my quiet place I could go to scrapbook and card make. It has now evolved to many different craft projects including anything from adult hair accessories to baby gear like bibs, blankets and much more. All my items are handmade with love and care!"

Rochelle makes bibs, burp cloths, soother clips, I-Spy bags, hair clips and bands, little squishy stuffies, blankets, and.......TUTUS.  I have expressed how tutus are the cutest thing in the entire world next to baby kittens and my children of course.  :)  Have a peak at her Facebook page for photos of all her wonderful custom made items and buy your child an I-Spy bag and a tutu.  ;)

What I Fancied Today At The Creative Collection Craft Sale

PU Toes corduroy dress for my little girl
This craft sale was pretty great.  As Lori from Sling Sisters pointed out it was a show for the Manitoba Etsy Sites.  Most tables were very different and I could have spent hundreds of dollars.  I resisted some of the gravitational pull being released by many of the tables but I still spent more than I had planned.  This is a very good thing.  :)

I bought a couple of gifts for the kiddos and my Just The Goods bath melts and sugar scrub.  I also bought four cupcakes that were delicious but we ate them so fast that I didn't get a photo.  Do you really want to sit at home looking at a photo of a cupcake?  That is just not fair for any of you who didn't get to munch one today.  ;)

Tasha's Soaps n' Stuff animal soaps for the kids and my niece.  Belt Clips by Snugglewunkins for my little girl who has absolutely no butt or hips to keep her pants up.  :)

Unique Kidz Handmade Baby and Kids Gifts

I really think that Manitoba is the home of every talented Mom alive.  :D  There are so many awesome Moms sewing, knitting, and crocheting away unique and cute baby & kid items.  Maybe it is the long cold winters that drive these ladies to these ancient trades.  Whatever it is I am glad these arts have not died in our modern world.
Have a look at Unique Kidz.  Unique Kidz has adorable items for your one of a kind little one.  Allison of Unique Kidz also has many beautiful fabric swatches on her Facebook site and is ready to make custom dresses, hats, pacifier clips, and more for your individual little guy or girl.   The first too photos I picked are the cutest little owls.  Owls seem to be the new hot thing with baby bibs, hats, blankets, slings, and now pacifier clips.  I love them.  I especially love her owl baby hat.  ADORABLE!!  Have a peak at her Facebook page for more photos, information, & pricing or email unique-kidz@mts.net for orders or custom items.

Mom's & Children's Paradise:
MCP is one of the largest local owned children's store featuring mostly second hand items that have been gently used. I am not sure if there is any "local" products featured here but I love used items and would like to get more people on that great bandwagon too! ;)

"MCP has been family owned and operated since 1981. So how did it all begin? Twenty eight years ago a mother and daughter realized a problem. Parents were having to spend ever increasing amounts to raise their children. Most unfortunate was that most of the items parents bought for their children were barely even used. Kids were in and out of things before parents have a chance to blink. Everything from car seats to cribs were great for the few months they were used, but after that these items became useless clutter. There were countless parents with drawers full of clothes their children only got to wear once before they were outgrown. It seemed an aweful waste to see these items thrown away.

In a small little shop in Trascona the mother and daughter team solved the problem. They opened a store where parents could bring their gently used items in for cash, while at the same time buying most of what they and their child needed at prices far less than new retail stores were charging. Although we have grown significantly in the last 28 years, moving to our current location on Nairn Ave. and at least quadrupling in size, we still have the heart of a small shop from Transcona. We hope this shows in the friendly environment within our store.

You may be surprised when you first walk in our store by the large number of brand name products we carry. Baby products by Graco, Cosco, Safety 1st, Evenflo, and Storkcraft. Toys by Fisher-Price, Playskool, Little Tikes, Step 2, and VTech. Clothing by Gap, OshKosh B'gosh, The Disney Store, Old Navy, Please Mum, Gymboree, Le Chateau, and Thyme. Come and see it all for yourself!

Here is a list of just some of the Baby Needs we carry:

  • Strollers
  • Car Seats
  • Cribs
  • High Chairs
  • Exersaucers
  • Swings
  • Booster Seats
  • Playpens
  • Toddler Beds
  • Cradles
  • Bottles
  • Diapers
  • Receiving Blankets
  • Bedding Sets
  • Activity Toys"

Patchwork Dress by The Button Jar

I have been following a blog here on blogger called The Button Jar. Michelle is a talented seamstress who makes, amongst many other items, beautiful quilted dresses. I have ordered one for my 2 1/2 year old for Christmas. The top is made out of a man's dress shirt and the bottom is put together like a patchwork quilt. It looks like it would be hours of work and is so neat because it also reuses old fabrics. If anyone knows me they know that I love freecycle and reusing old items. This is a beautiful way to incorporate something old into something new. The designs she uses for her little toddler & baby dresses are very classic and the fabric she chooses are very light and feminine. Perfect for any little girl. Check out her blog:

http://thebuttonjargirl.blogspot.com/

She also makes pencil crayon rolls, bibs, bags and other neat handmade items. Check her out and order something cute for a little friend of yours for Christmas.

Weebejammin Old School Jammies

Everyone has to remember those cozy flannel jammies from the 80's. Grandmas, Nanas, Omas, and Babas all over the world made these for their grandkids for every Christmas and birthday. Well, if you don't have a Grandma, Nana, Oma, or Baba to sew jammies take a look at local Winkler trio Weebejammin. They are making them with warm winter flannel and cool summer cottons.

They also have just added the ever so popular baby sleep sack with one cool addition, full sleeves. I feel like I am stealing from them when I order my kids jammies. Handmade pajamas are around $20 and the sleep sacks $10-$15. How do they do it???? I am sure you can't even get a sleep sack at one of the disgusting box stores for less than $25. This is another have to buy for shower gifts, Christmas, birthdays, heck for $10 you don't need a holiday to buy them. I have 8 sleep sacks on order for baby to be gifts and Christmas gifts. I have also bought a few pairs of jammies for my 2 1/2 yr old. I LOVE them!!

Take a look at their blog with some more pictures and ordering information:
