Rosenort's Muddy River Market Place

Once again Rosenort will be holding the Muddy River Marketplace as part of the Rosenort Summer Festival, happening this year on August 26th-28th.  They are calling out for any crafters and home business makers to become a part of the Marketplace.  More info can be found on our website:  www.rosenortfestival.wordpress.com.

This is a bit on their market from their website:

"We are very excited to be holding the third annual Muddy River Marketplace this year!  After last year’s rain out, we are hoping that we’ve learned a few things to make the Marketplace even better for 2011!
The Muddy River Marketplace will be open during the Festival on Saturday, from 10:00am until 4:00pm.   We expect a great turn out, so if you have some wares you’d like to share, please come and join us.  We are looking for all types of items, including baking, sewing, crafts, cards, gift items, home business products, garden produce, canned goods, books, etc.  So make your Christmas list (or just bring your wallet) and come browse the Marketplace!"

Local Upcycler Is Heading To Toronto's One of a Kind Show

Lisa of lisalesa is a self taught artist and upcyclist.  She is bringing new life to vintage finds has been accepted to the One of a Kind Show in Toronto March 31 - April 3, 2011.  I have previously posted about her upcycled graffiti pumps, purses, bags, and totes as well as her upcycled lighting fixtures.  It is a very big deal for this Winnipeg Artisan to be chosen for this event and is fundraising to cover much of the costs.  There will be an anticipated 200,000 people in attendance over the 4 days of the show and this is an awesome opportunity to spread the Manitoba Homemade word!  If you would like to support her in this venture she is happily excepting donations here:

http://www.gofundme.com/Help-lisalesacom-Upcycled-Designs-Rock-It-Through

This is the press release of her wonderful and exciting news:

"lisalesa takes thrift store drab and applies a variety of found and saved materials to create unique upcycled styles. lisalesa designs are whimsical, kooky and chic and are all truly unique. From one of a kind graffiti designed pumps to upcycled 2nd hand purses, bags and totes, lisalesa mashes thrift store shabby into sustainable high style.

Her passion is for thrift store garage and yard sale lighting finds.

After years of fine tuning her skills of finding vintage treasures at yard sales, thrift stores and beyond to then resell on EBay, Lisa decided to take a giant leap to bring new life to chandeliers, fixtures, lamps and more, all thrift store upgrades, and all using re-purposed materials to make lisalesa truly eco-minded.  With impeccable skill, lisalesa creates handcrafted designs, inspired by everything from her favorite Japanese restaurant, Paris in the spring or the colors of the Aegean Sea, lisalesa designs are an invitation to “bust out of the sameness”.  Specializing in custom pieces, you can either provide your chandelier, shoes or purse for her to work her magic on or let her pick out a “canvas” for you.

Lisa has been accepted to The One of a Kind Show in Toronto in March 31, 2011 She is an avid Blogger and writes to raise awareness of Child and Adolescent Anxiety. As a sufferer herself, Lisa has watched as 4 of her 5 daughters battle with, depression, anxiety and eating disorders over the past 5 years. They are the principal reason she started lisalesa.com, her home grown design business.

To see more of lisalesa’s work and to learn more about her very touching and inspiring story contact lisa at www.lisalesa.com or her Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/EnlightenedThinking."

Lisa will have to take lots of pictures and fill us in on the show when she gets back.  Again, if you can help her out just a little to afford the thousands of dollars you can do it online.  Have a peak at her website, blog or Etsy shop to see her awesome upcycled fashions! We wish you luck in Toronto Lisa!!!

Of Course You Can!

I loved Of Course You Can's mix of upcycled goodies.  I think it is fabulous that they have more than one price for the same item depending on what you can afford or think it is worth....plus below you will read that they are also interested in barters too.  :)  Old world ideas with a new world charm.  I LOVE their rag rugs and may be buying one for my sewing room once it is ready to decorate.

Note from their Etsy Site:
"Celeste and Dandy are folks who pretty much just make awesome stuff all the time. Between the two of us we do screenprinting, film photography, illustration and painting, graphic design, clothing design, bookbinding, rugmaking, knitting and crochet, as well as a smattering of other random things.

When we're not making art and crafts we're usually volunteering at the local bike co-op, the local radical library, at food not bombs, or making music. Dandy works at an art-focussed drop in center for inner city youth. Celeste plays accordion on street corners.

We also do craft fairs, zine fairs, bookfairs, and farmers markets and have done them in Halifax, Montreal, Victoria and Portland Oregon.

We're also big into the idea of barter.  If you like something we've made, and want to trade us something you've made for it, get in touch!"

Tea Buds & Blossoms is Educating The Prairies One Cup of Tea At A Time

Jasmine Dragon Tears Green Tea
A reader emailed me about a local tea company that they love.  Tea Buds & Blossoms has an amazing selection of tea: chai, traditional favourites, green, rooibos, herb & fruit teas, black, oolong, and traditional drinking herbs.  Have a peak at the unusual and amazing selection they carry on their website and read below their little bio on Tea Buds & Blossoms.

"The passion for enjoying a good cup of tea was the driving force behind the beginnings of Tea Buds and Blossoms. Originally, the Owner,Susan Lamont, started out with a kiosk in the Killarney Mall,in Killarney, Manitoba. With over 70 varieties of loose leaf teas, Black, White, Rooibos, Green, Oolong and Herb and Fruit  teas, tea pots and infusion accessories from various regions in the world. she provides the tea connoisseur with the upmost tea experience.  Loose leaf teas are new to many people on the Prairies, who mostly grew up with commercial tea bags. There is a big difference between the two. Tea Buds and Blossoms travels the Manitoba landscape educating the public. You will find her at group gatherings, craft shows and ladies' night out events, as well as, the trade shows. She is committed to getting the word out about the splendid palette of loose leaf teas she carries. She attends the yearly World Tea Expo to keep up with the growing trends and resurgence of tea in the marketplace."
