Cloverleaf Art & Fibre Merry Midwinter Needlefelting Workshop

"Hello friends of Cloverleaf Art & Fibre,

We've set the date for another of Linda's popular needlefelting workshops, just in time for the festive season.

Painting with Fleece:  "Merry Midwinter"
Saturday, November 27, 2010
1:00 - 4:00 pm
Henderson Library
1-1050 Henderson Highway in Winnipeg.

Looking for a new craft for the winter, or something different for seasonal gift giving? This is your opportunity to explore texture, colour and design through the art of needlefelting. The technique is simple – strands of coloured fleece are applied to a woollen fabric background using a special barbed needle – but the possibilities are endless. Linda will provide a choice of designs as inspiration for the picture you will create in this class.

Your new skills can be used to decorate clothing and accessories , to embellish quilts, and to create your own unique fibre art.

The fleece provided is from the Leafhaven backyard flock of purebred Shetland sheep, in a delightful range of natural and hand-dyed colours.

Cost: $45 (includes fabric, designs, fleece in a variety of colours, and needles)
To register, email cloverleaf.fibre@gmail.com

Please share this notice with friends and fellow artisans.  We are exploring the wide world of online social networking, and invite you to stay in touch with the Leafhaven flock and the latest news about shows and classes by following our blog or becoming a fan of our business page on facebook. The links are below.

Thanks,
Linda & Margaret"

This Weekend's (Oct 29th-Oct 30th) Craft Sales

Just a reminder of what is up this weekend.  I should have done this last week because there were three sales and I hope they all had a good turn out.  Another reminder is that this Saturday is the last day to visit St.Norbert's Farmers Market this year (8am-3pm).

This weekend is probably our slowest weekend for craft fairs.  At least the ones that I know about. Probably due to Halloween activities.  Nevertheless it is a good time to start hunting for Christmas presents.  I always try to spread out my spending over the 3 months prior to Christmas so I don't feel the pain of all the money gone at one time.  :)

Here are the places to be to be this weekend:

Halloween Hoot Craft Sale
October 29th & October 30th (10am-4pm)
St.James Legion, 1755 Portage Ave
Team Diabetes Fundraiser
To obtain application please call Tracey at 799-4905

Fall & Christmas Craft & Bake Sale
October 30th, 2010 (9am-3pm)
Holy Eucharist Parish Hall
226 Leighton Ave

Record High for Handmade in Manitoba

Thank you readers.  I have been using a tracking device that tells me how many visitors I have each week and this month has been amazing.  I have had double the readers....600-800 people a week.  They are not just glancing at it and passing on.  These are people actually spending time reading about our local community.  I am so happy that the artisans, artists, local vendors, local restaurants, crafters, and craft shows are getting the attention they deserve.  Keep reading here for local talent and keep buying local.  Also, if you are new here and are a crafter or artisan make sure to email me your bio and some photos and I'd love to do a feature on you.  The more the merrier!!  Also, if you head to an craft fair in the upcoming months I would love a email about who was there and what was cool.  I then can post your reviews here.  The more help I have means more coverage here!!!  I will only be attending a handful of craft fairs so many will go by without any details on it.

Thanks again everyone!  Email any comments, reviews, or bios to handmadeinmanitoba@gmail.com

Montrose School Craft Fair Is Looking For Crafters For Christmas Sale

Hello crafters & artisans!

Lee Graham is the Fundraising Coordinator for the Montrose School Parent Council. They are having a holiday craft sale this year and are looking for talented artisans to help make this sale a success.

This event will take place in the heart of River Heights at Montrose School, located between Elm St. and Montrose St. on Grant Ave. The date will be Saturday, December 11th, 2010 from 9am-4pm. They have decided to do the sale later than most craft so as not to compete with the large number of sales throughout the city. They think that a sale in December is a great way to capture the sales & interest of people in the midst of the busiest shopping time of the year! In addition, they plan to advertise city wide, using print ads, internet and of course, word of mouth.

They are looking for a wide variety of crafts/talent, and hope to book 20-30 vendors for this event. Table rental is $30, and includes an 8ft banquet table. (They are currently mapping out the space and seeing how many spaces might include electrical.) On top of the table rental, they would like each vendor to donate something to our silent auction/prize draw.

If you are interested in being a part of this event, please email Lee Graham at creativelee.wpg@gmail.com. Applications for table rental are due by November 12th, on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Please state what you are selling and include pictures if possible. (To keep the sale interesting, they must limit the number of same crafts for sale.) You will then receive an info package including payment details, set up/take down rules, advertising, etc.

All money raised from this sale (table rentals, silent auction, etc) goes to improving the technology within the classroom, to the students of Montrose School. Thanks for your interest!
Happy crafting!

Details to remember:

Name, email address, phone number
What you are selling (w/ photos if possible)
Any special requirements (they will do their best, but cannot promise that they can fulfill them)

Attention All Crafters and Artisans!!

I was thinking about doing a where to find artisans on my blog this month.  There are so many craft & artisan sales in the upcoming months and I thought it would help people find you if I did a post on it.  Ex. Sling sisters will be at this craft sale and this is what they are selling.  It has to be items made locally.  I don't have the time to look up all my past crafters, contact them, and write the notes so I thought I'd post here and if you would like to be featured please email me the craft fairs you can be found at and a description of what you will be selling.  Feel free to email a photo or 2 of some of your wares to include with the posts.  This goes out to new and previously featured artisans, artists, crafters, bakers, and pretty much everything else that can be found at our Manitoba craft shows.

Email me at handmadeinmanitoba@gmail.com.

The Holiday Craft Season: Coming Soon To Any Neighborhood Near You!!

There is absolutely no excuse to not shop local this holiday season.  I have been blogging local crafters for a year now and I have not seen the amount of craft fairs that the very close future has for us.  OMGoodness!  I am sure I have nearly thirty listed on the side panel of this blog and they are all over Manitoba.  The craft fairs will have a huge variety of artisans and crafters.  Each craft fair typically has a theme: all handmade, grandma jo crafts, mix of crafters & local vendors, Canadian wide crafters, artisans & vendors, art & photography, and of course the this ain't your grandma's crafts.  ;)  If you want to know what is going to be available so you head to the ones with the most artisans to match your style check for websites or for an email or phone number where you can get a vendor/artisan/crafter list.  Most have them available.  If you are a hard core research type like me, or just nosy, these lists often have small bios and websites of the artisans.

Please email me if I have missed a craft fair and/or if you have a list of vendors/artisans/crafters at your craft fair I will do a post about it to get the word out.  I am sure there are a dozen more that I have not heard of and I would hate to have you miss out on a local gem. ;)  handmadeinmanitoba@gmail.com

Happy Shopping!!

Enthral Design's Amazing Silverwork

Brandi of Enthral Designs is a talented artisan that specializes in hand made silver jewelry. She uses her skills of metalsmithing, working precious metal clay, soldering, & forging to create her truly unique pieces.  She enjoys working with silver art clay, vintage components and recycled items.  This passion started in her as a creative outlet five years ago and now this hobby has become a part time business.

I love silver jewelry and find most hobby jewelry makers use too many other elements that are not me.  I am very drawn to silver and true turquoise.  I should look into that and see what that says about me.  :)

Have a peak at more of her pieces online:
